Hello!
Christian Focus is a small student-led society that is part of the YUSU Faith Society network. We meet every Wednesday during term time. Our aim is to create a loving welcoming community which promotes open-minded ecumenical discussion within a friendly accepting environment.
Our Story
In November 2016 a few students met up to discuss the creation of a new ecumenical Christian society that we felt needed to be created to fill a gap within University life. Over the next few months the group began to form and meet up on a regular basis on Wednesday evenings. We chose the name Christian Focus and decided that our key aims were to create an inclusive environment where people could ask key questions about their faith in a non-judgemental space. We have run lots of different events from the Christian view of alcohol , to a sleepover within Heslington Church and remembering Holocaust Memorial Day. Christian Focus is also affiliated to the Student Christian Movement who do lots of important work within faith action, celebrating diversity and seeking justice. You can read an article about us joing the SCM here.
In the Summer term of 2017 Christian Focus became a ratified society with YUSU and has an exciting programme planned for the 17/18 academic year.
During our first year as being a ratified society we hosted weekly events throughout term time. We had talks covering various topics such as Christianity & Gender by the then Dean of York (Viv Faull) and local charity work by Restore. We also have lots of discussions - one of the Christian Focus favourites is a 'Topic out of a hat' discussion. We also had the honour of taking part in the first ever Campus Pride event and signing the Campus Pride Pledge.
